BURLINGTON, VT — Five former Vermont Lake Monster players were selected in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft that took place July 13th and 14th at the MLB All-Star Weekend down in Atlanta, Georgia.
2022 Lake Monster infielder Henry Godbout was the first former Vermont player taken in the 2025 draft by the Boston Red Sox in Round 2C with the 75th overall pick out of the University of Virginia. The only Futures League Lake Monster taken earlier was Ethan Anderson with the 61st overall pick in the 2024 draft.
Two other Lake Monsters taken on the first day of the draft came in the third round. 2023 Vermont infielder Kyle Lodise (Georgia Tech) was selected with the first pick of the third round (76th overall) by the Chicago White Sox and 2023 outfielder Trevor Cohen (Rutgers) with the 85th overall pick by the San Francisco Giants.
Day two of the draft on July 14th saw two former Lake Monsters taken back-to-back in the 13th round as 2023 infielder Jack Winnay (Wake Forest) was selected by Boston with the 388th overall pick and 2023 pitcher Callan Fang (Harvard) by Minnesota with the 389th pick.
The five players drafted are the most in a season for the Lake Monsters since joining the FCBL in 2021 Three former Vermonters were drafted in both 2023 and 2024 after Vermont native Owen Kellington was a 2021 draft pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
