BURLINGTON, VT — Connor Vercollone snapped a 2-2 tie with a 2-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead the Vermont Lake Monsters to a 4-2, seven-inning victory over the Worcester in game one of a Futures League doubleheader Sunday afternoon at historic Centennial Field.
The Lake Monsters were held to two hits in the nightcap as Braveheart pitchers Evan McCarthy and Nathan Levesque combined for a shutout and Chris Mondesir smashed a solo homer as the Bravehearts split the twinbill with a 2-0 victory.
Bryan Richman (Pasadena CC) had an RBI single in the 3rd inning of the opener to tie the game 1-1, then Malcolm Whitfield (Tufts) a fifth-inning sacrifice fly for a 2-1 lead. After Worcester tied score in the sixth on a bases loaded walk, Vercollone (Saint Bonaventure) plated Sam Cavossa (Saint Michael’s) and Cooper Berry (Pomona Pitzer) with the go ahead double.
