NORWICH, CT — The Norwich Sea Unicorns scored single runs in each of the first three innings to hand Vermont its second straight loss with a 3-1 victory over the Lake Monsters Tuesday night in Futures League action at Dodd Stadium.
Norwich scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first without a hit, manufacturing a run with a walk, pickoff error, stolen base and RBI groundout. Added a run in second on a Chace Chaplin RBI single and another in the third on a C.J.Nolan RBI double off Vermont starter Eli Fleming (Stetson), who was charged with three runs (two earned) on two hits and three walks over three innings.
Lake Monsters scored their only run in the fourth when Bryan Richman (Pasadena CC) led off the inning with a double, advanced to third on a Connor Vercollone (Saint Bonaventure) flyout and scored on a Xander Meissner (Bethany Lutheran) sacrifice fly.
But after a fifth inning two-out infield single from Hunter Kingsbury (Bryant), Vermont’s only two baserunners came on walks in the eighth and ninth innings as the Lake Monsters fell to 3-3 on the season.
