BURLINGTON, VT — Shaun McMillan had an RBI single in each of the first three innings as the Lake Monsters jumped out to a 6-2 lead and went on to complete a three-game sweep of the Westfield Starfires with an 8-4 victory Sunday evening at historic Centennial Field and Vermont’s fifth straight Futures League victory. 

The McMillan (St. John’s) first-inning RBI single brought home Sam Cavossa (Saint Michael’s), who also singled and scored in each of the first three innings including a two-run single to right field in the third before the McMillan RBI single made it 6-0.

Jack Kelleher (Northern Essex CC), making his first start for Vermont, allowed just four hits with no walks and two strikeouts over an efficient five scoreless innings (39 of 57 pitches for strikeouts). Westfield scored two runs on just one hit in the seventh and added two more runs in eighth, but Zach Davis (Bryant/Colchester) closed out the game with one unearned run allowed over the final two innings. 

The Lake Monsters got a run in the fifth on a wild pitch for a 7-0 lead and Zander Teator (Babson) made the score 8-2 in the bottom of the seventh with his first RBI single of the season.
