BURLINGTON, VT — The first six Lake Monsters to the plate in the bottom of the first singled as Vermont scored eight times in the inning and went on to defeat the Nashua Silver Knights 11-3 in Futures League action Wednesday night on the Delta Dental Diamond at historic Centennial Field.
Sam Cavossa (Saint Michael’s) got the first-inning rally started with the first of his four hits in the game. That was followed by singles from Aidan Botti (Cuesta), Shaun McMillan (St. John’s), Bryan Richman (Pasadena CC), Jeremy Sosa (Manhattan) and Xavier Meissner (Bethany Lutheran) for a 5-0 lead.
After a forceout, strikeout and walk, Cavossa collected his second hit of the inning with an RBI double. The final two runs of the inning were unearned on a two-out dropped flyball. Cavossa added a sacrifice fly in the third for a 9-1 advantage.
McMillan doubled and scored on a Meissner RBI single in the fourth, then hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to put Vermont ahead 11-2. It was McMillan’s third home run of the season and the second in as many games.
