BURLINGTON, VT — Jeremy Sosa went 2-for-4 with four RBI and John Delgado allowed just one unearned run with seven strikeouts over five innings to lead the Vermont Lake Monsters to a 9-1 Futures League victory Thursday night on the Delta Dental Diamond at historic Centennial Field.
Vermont scored single runs on a Leandro Guevara (AIC) two-out RBI single in the first and a Sam Cavossa (Saint Michael’s) two-out RBI single in the second. Westfield scored its only run of the night in the top of the fourth, but three walks in the bottom of the inning led to a Sosa (Manhattan) two-out, two-run single for a 4-1 Lake Monsters advantage.
Sosa added a sacrifice fly in the seventh before Vermont sealed the victory with four runs in the eighth inning, including RBI singles from Bryan Richman (Pasadena CC) and Sosa.
Delgado (Stevenson) earned his second win of the season, allowing just the one unearned run on one hit (an RBI single), three walks and had at least one strikeout in each of his five innings including two punchouts in the second and third frames.
