WORCESTER, MA — Three Worcester pitchers combined on a 7-hit shutout with zero walks and 13 strikeouts, while the Bravehearts scored three runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh to beat the Vermont Lake Monsters 7-0 in Futures League action Saturday night at Fitton Field.
Jason Potvin scattered four hits and struckout five over the first five innings, while Stephen Ricker two hits and two strikeouts over two innings. After allowing a leadoff single in the eighth, Brady Shea struckout the next six Lake Monsters to close out the game.
Two of the Bravehearts three runs in the fifth were unearned off Vermont starter Jackson Beattie (Navy), who gave up nine hits over five innings. Worcester started the game with three straight singles to load the bases, but Beattie got a 1-2-3 double play and strikeout to escape the inning.
Game stayed 3-0 until the eighth when the Bravehearts scored four times on a Mason Clark two-run double and Evan McCoach two-run triple off reliever Zander Teator (Babson).
