WORCESTER, MA — C.J. Egrie hit a two-run homer and a pair of Braveheart pitchers combined to limit the Lake Monsters to one unearned run on three hits in a Worcester 3-1 victory over Vermont in Futures League action Sunday afternoon at Fitton Field.
With a runner on first and out in the third, Egrie smacked a 1-2 pitch from Vermont starter Hayden Mutz (AIC) over the fence in left to give the Bravehearts a 2-0 lead. Worcester added another run in the fourth on a Michael Brown squeeze bunt.
Vermont got its only run of the game in the seventh when Colby Brouillette (Central Connecticut) led off with a double and later scored the unearned run on a fielding error by shortstop Brown. Worcester starter Nik Pavia tossed five innings with two hits and five strikeouts, while Noah McMahon one hit and four strikeouts over final four innings.
