BURLINGTON, VT — The New Britain Bees scored four runs in the seventh and added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth for a 6-1 victory, handing the Vermont Lake Monsters their fourth straight loss in front of a season-high 4,045 at historic Centennial Field.

Vermont took a 1-0 lead in the third on a Sam Cavossa (Saint Michael’s) and Shaun McMillan (St. John’s) RBI double. It was Cavossa’s league-leading 22nd run scored and McMillan’s league-leading 20th RBI. Both players had two hits on the night, but the rest of the lineup combined for just two other hits.

Starter Eli Fleming (Stetson) scattered three hits over four scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts, while Bryce DiPiero (Central Connecticut) retired all six batters he faced in the fifth and sixth to keep Lake Monsters in the lead.

But DiPiero allowed back-to-back doubles to open the seventh to tie the game and later in the inning reliever Alvin Gomez (AIC) gave up a bases loaded two-run single to Easton Masse with another run scoring on a throwing error.  New Britain added a pair of runs in the ninth on an RBI triple from Tim Hennig, who later scored on a sacrifice fly.
