BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters used a pair of unearned runs in the second inning and a Dawson Bryce two-run homer in a three-run third inning in a 5-2 Futures League victory over the Worcester Bravehearts Saturday night at historic Centennial Field.
Tyler Favretto (Kansas Wesleyan) plated the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to score Eric Jeon (Columbia), who had tripled with one out. Jeter Polledo (Bethune-Cookman) followed with a RBI double to center for a 2-0 Lake Monsters lead.
Bryce (Merrimack) doubled the lead to four with his two-run homer to left for his second home run of the season. Joey Gale (Saint Joseph’s) added an RBI single later in the inning for a 5-0 Vermont advantage.
Vermont starter Hayden Mutz (AIC) allowed one run on three hits over the first four innings, retiring nine of the first 10 batters he faced before giving up an RBI single in the fourth. Brody Shawn (Wake Forest) tossed two scoreless innings before leaving after a pair of walks in the seventh when Worcester scored its second run on an RBI double.
Zander Teator (Babson) struckout the tying run at the plate to end the seventh and finished out the game with three hits and three strikeouts over the final 2 ⅓ innings for his second save. .
