NEW BRITAIN, CT — The Vermont Lake Monsters opened a three-game roadtrip with a 9-6 loss to the New Britain Bees in Futures League action Friday night at New Britain Stadium.

The Lake Monsters trailed 5-1 when they scored four runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game at five. Conner Vercollone (Saint Bonaventure) had an RBI double for the first run of the inning before Vermont tied the score on a Sam Cavossa (Saint Michael’s) bases loaded two-run double with the third runner scoring on a throwing error. 

New Britain retook the lead in the fifth on a Julius Rosado RBI double off Vermont reliever Romel Roca (AIC), then added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 9-5 advantage. Lake Monsters scored a run in the ninth when Zander Teator (Babson) collected his second double of game and scored from third two batters later on a double play.

* Cavossa raised FCBL-leading average to .422 and now leads league with 38 base hits
* Caleb Miller had 2-run homer (in 3rd for the Bee 5-1 lead), just the 6th home run allowed by Vermont pitchers
* Shaun McMillan (St. John’s) went 0-for-5 and did not reach base by hit, walk or HBP for first time this season in his 21st Lake Monsters game
* Just 3rd loss this season for the Lake Monsters when scoring 5 or more runs (now 11-3)
* Vermont (17-10) has lost 2 straight games after a season-best 7-game winning streak
