NASHUA, NH — Colby Brouillette (3-for-5) and Mark Quatrani (2-for-4) both had four RBI as the Vermont Lake Monsters outscored the Nashua Silver Knights 13-9 in a back-n-forth Futures League game Saturday night at Holman Stadium.

Vermont scored four times in the third inning, including a Quatrani (Cornell) three-run homer, for a 5-2 lead. Nashua cut the deficit to 5-4 with a pair of runs in the fourth and to 6-5 with another run in fifth. After Brouillette (Central Connecticut), who had an RBI single in the first inning, gave the Lake Monsters a 7-5 lead with a two-run single in sixth, the Silver Knights scored three runs in the bottom of the inning for an 8-7 advantage. 

The Lake Monsters wasted no time regaining the lead in the seventh as they tied game on Jacob Miller (Jacksonville) one-out RBI single, took lead on two-out Quatrani bases loaded walk and added two more runs on Brouillette infield single behind second base for 11-8 lead. 

Nashua got a run back with a two-out single, walk and RBI single before a potential game-tying extra-base hit was tracked down by centerfielder Joey Gale (Catholic) in leftcenter for final out of seventh. Vermont added single runs on Tyler Favretto (Kansas Wesleyan) RBI single in eighth and Gale RBI double in ninth.

MONSTER HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Quatrani’s 3-run homer tied him with Wyatt Patchett (Le Moyne) for team lead with 3 HR and was Vermont’s 14th home run of season (hit 13 all of 2023)
  • Eric Jeon  (Columbia) matched Favretto with 3 runs scored, while Gale had 2 hits along with Quatrani (Favretto and Brouillette 3 hits)
  • Cole Riskin (Clarkson), making 1st start of season, 2 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks and 1 strikeout over 2 1/3 innings
  • Zander Teator (Babson) allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 7th inning, then struckout side in 8th

BEYOND BOXSCORE 

  • The two teams combined for 22 runs, 29 hits, 11 walks, 3 hit batters and 406 combined pitches in 3-hour, 49-minute contest
  • 13 runs are a season-high for Vermont (12 runs June 19th vs. Westfield)
