BURLINGTON, VT — The Worcester Bravehearts rallied from a 5-0 deficit to tie the game in the top of the ninth and then outlasted the Lake Monsters in the 10th inning for a 9-8 Futures League victory over Vermont in front of a season-high 4,022 Tuesday night at historic Centennial Field.
The Bravehearts got a grand slam homer from Jaylem Sepulveda in the sixth to cut the five-run deficit to 5-4 and then got an RBI single and two-out run-scoring wild pitch in the ninth to tie the game. A Jackson Marshall sac fly and Wyatt Hofffman two-run single gave the Bravehearts a 9-6 lead in the 10th.
Vermont tried to rally themselves in the bottom of the 10th with a Shaun McMillan (St. John’s) RBI double and Cooper Berry (Pomona Pitzer) RBI single, but left the tying run on third base with a strikeout to end the game.
McMillan had a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, his seventh home run of the season in just 23 games played. The seven homers are a new Lake Monsters FCBL-era record, while his five Centennial Field home runs are also a new Vermont FCBL record.
