NASHUA, NH — Shaun McMillan hit a two-run homer in first, Sam Cavossa went 4-for-5 and John Delgado earned his fourth win of the season with six strong innings as the Vermont Lake Monsters defeated the Nashua Silver Nights in Futures League action Thursday night at Holman Stadium.

Cavossa (Saint Michael’s), who raised his league-leading average from .373 to .390 with the four hits, led off the game with a double and scored on a Nolan Colby (Fairfield) RBI single. McMillan (St. John’s) followed by smashing a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall for a 3-0 Vermont lead.

Delgado (Stevenson) retired the first 10 Nashua batters before a one-out single in the fourth followed by a two-out RBI single before the Silver Knights added an unearned run off Delgado in the sixth. Vermont loaded the bases in the seventh on a single, walk and single before a Tommy Popoff (Binghamton) sacrifice fly and Cavossa RBI single for 5-2 advantage.

Nashua cut the lead back to one with two unearned runs off Luke Pearre (Rhode Island), who was making his Lake Monsters debut. After Pearre recorded a strikeout to open the bottom of eighth, Zach Davis (Bryant) worked around a one-out walk in to finish off the inning and Sean Gamble (Bethany Lutheran) two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his fourth save.
