BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters snapped a 4-4 tie with six unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and went on to defeat the Nashua Silver Knights 10-7 in Futures League action Friday night at historic Centennial Field.

Vermont loaded the bases in the eighth on a throwing error, one-out infield single and two-out walk before taking a 5-4 lead when Jack Rickheim (Harvard) was hit by a pitch to force home Joey Gale (Saint Joseph’s). A walk to Tyler Favretto (Kansas Wesleyan) and another Nashua error led to two more runs before a Mark Quatrani (Cornell) two-run single and run-scoring wild pitch completed the six-run frame.

Quatrani had given the Lake Monsters a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a home run to rightfield, his team-tying fourth home run of the season. After Nashua scored two runs in the third without a hit, Gale put Vermont back on top 3-2 with a two-out, two-run double.

Nashua tied the game with an RBI single, their first hit of the game in the fourth before Vermont retook the lead at 4-3 as Dylan Pacheco (Seton Hall) scored from second base on a two-out fielding error. The Silver Knights again tied the game in sixth on another RBI single.
