BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont and Norwich Futures League game Sunday night at historic Centennial Field was suspended by rain in the top of the 10th inning just after the Sea Unicorns had scored the go ahead run and will resume when Norwich returns to Vermont at the end of the month.
The game was stopped with Norwich leading 6-5 with a runner on first base and two outs. When the game resumes on the 30th, the Sea Unicorns and Lake Monsters will play the rest of the 10th and if the game is tied at the end of the inning without a winner, it will be decided with a Home Run Derby. The regularly scheduled nine-inning July 30th game will then follow.
Sunday’s game was scoreless until Norwich got a solo homer in the fifth and an RBI single in the sixth. Vermont, which was held without a base hit over the first five innings, got a two-run double from Sam Cavossa (Saint Michael’s) and a two-run homer from Hunter Kingsbury (Bryant) in the bottom of the sixth for a 4-2 Lake Monsters lead.
The Sea Unicorns tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh before Vermont regained the lead on a Jeremy Sosa (Manhattan) solo homer in the bottom of the inning. Norwich was able to tie the game in the ninth with a leadoff single, pair of wild pitches and a one-out RBI groundout to shortstop.
