BURLINGTON, VT — Mark Quatrani went 3-for-5 with three RBI and Luke Parise had eight strikeouts over five scoreless innings as the Vermont Lake Monsters improved their hold on fourth-place in the Futures League with a 5-3 victory over the Worcester Bravehearts Tuesday night at Fitton Field.

The win was a season-best tying sixth straight victory  for Vermont (23-17), which now has a .575 winning percentage to .536 for Worcester (22-19-1).  The Lake Monsters also won six straight June 19-27.

Quatrani (Cornell) gave Vermont a 2-0 lead with a 2-run single in the third and Wyatt Patchett Le Moyne) added a sacrifice fly in the fourth for a 3-run advantage. Parise (Saint Joseph’s), who allowed a single and a walk in each of the first two innings, retired 10 of the last 13 batters faced.

Worcester tied the game with three runs in seventh, but Vermont loaded the bases with one out in the top of the eighth on a single, throwing error and walk. Tommy Googins (Princeton) then fouled off two 3-2 pitches before walking to force Joey Gale (Saint Joseph’s) home with the go ahead run. Quatrani added an insurance run in eighth with an RBI single to center.

  • With his 3 hits and 3 RBI, Quatrani now second in FCBL with .344 average and 1 off league lead with 27 RBI (does not include 2 RBI from 6/20 suspended game)
  • With 2 runs scored, Favretto has scored 18 runs in his last 15 games
