BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end on Friday night with a 6-2 loss to the New Britain Bees in Futures League action in front of 2,963 at historic Centennial Field.
New Britain scored all the runs they would need in the second, scoring three runs on four hits in the inning off Vermont starter Brody Shawn (Wake Forest). T.J. Gormely led off the frame with a solo home run, then after back-to-back singles, the Bees scored two more times on a wild pitch and groundout.
Vermont got one run back in the fourth with one out on a Jack Rickheim (Harvard) RBI groundout after the Lake Monsters loaded the bases on two walks around a single. The Bees quickly got that run back with their second leadoff homer of the game, the second leading off the fifth from Ryan Scialabba.
New Britain added two more runs in the seventh for a 6-1 advantage before the Lake Monsters scored in the bottom of the inning on another RBI groundout, this one from Mark Quatrani (Cornell).
