BURLINGTON, VT —The Lake Monsters scored five times in the bottom of the third inning and Wyatt Cameron allowed just two hits over six scoreless innings to lead Vermont to a 7-1 Futures League victory over the Norwich Sea Unicorns Friday night in front of a crowd of 2,781 at historic Centennial Field. 

Jacob Miller (Jacksonville) got the scoring started in the third inning with a one-out RBI single to score Tommy Googins (Princeton), who had led off the inning with a walk. Sam Cavossa (Saint Michael’s) and Joey Gale (Saint Joseph’s) added RBI singles later in the inning followed by a Joe Marini (Catholic) RBI groundout for the 5-0 advantage.  

Cameron (Central Connecticut) retired the first eight batters he faced (two-out single in the third) and 11 of the first 12 before a two-out walk and single in the fourth. He then retired six of the last seven Norwich batters he faced, the only baserunner coming on a leadoff walk in the sixth (erased on double play). 

Wyatt Patchett (Le Moyne) a 1-2-3 seventh inning and Zander Teator (Babson) a 1-2-3 eighth before Teator allowed a one-out single in ninth that came around to score on a two-out wild pitch for the Sea Unicorns only run of the game.  

SCHEDULE CHANGE: Vermont will now play 2 games both Tuesday and Wednesday at 5:35pm next week vs. Worcester at Centennial Field. Tuesday Tuesday will include resumption of July 17th suspended game at Worcester (Bravehearts lead 5-4 top of 3rd) followed by a 7-inning contest, while Wednesday will be pair of 7-inning games (including makeup of June 23rd rainout at Centennial)

  • Miller, Cavaossa, Gale and Jackson Sirois (Virginia) each had 2 of Vermont’s 10 hits
  • Cavossa run in 5th and Sirois run in 7th both were scored on wild pitches
