BURLINGTON, VT — Brothers Jake and Nolan Risedorf were a combined 6-for-8 with two walks, three runs, two doubles and two RBI to lead the New Britain Bees to a 9-2 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in Futures League action Friday night on Delta Dental Diamond at historic Centennial Field.
Vermont scored its only two runs of the game in the second after opening the inning with three straight singles to right field to load the bases. After a forceout at home, Sam Cavossa (Saint Michael’s) beat out the back end of a double play attempt to score Aidan Botti (Rhode Island) and Masai Marshall (Northwestern) also scored on a throwing error for a 2-1 Lake Monsters lead.
The Bees tied the game with an unearned run fourth, then took a 4-2 lead on a two-run triple in the seventh. Before that it looked as if Vermont got out of the inning with a second pickoff of the frame, but a balk was called on the play and the two-run triple followed a base on balls.
New Britain sent nine batters to the plate in the ninth inning, scoring five runs on three hits, a walk and two hit batters to break open the contest and snap Vermont’s (36-19) six-game home winning streak.
