NORWALK, CT — THe Norwich Sea Unicorns used a pair of two-run triples on Wednesday night to hand the Vermont Lake Monsters a 7-2 loss in Futures League action at Dodd Stadium.
Lake Monsters took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on a two-run double from Evan Dennis (Colby Sawyer/Blue Mountain), who was playing in his first game for Vermont since June 1st. The double scored Sam Cavossa (Saint Michaels), who reached on a walk, and Tommy Popoff (Binghamton), who had singled to third.
Vermont held the lead until the sixth when the Sea Unicorns tied the game on a wild pitch by reliever Will Polishuk (Pomona Pitzer), who then gave up a Gavin O’Brien one-out, two-run triple and a Charlie Walsh two-out RBI single for 5-2 advantage.
Connor Scanlan plated a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning with Norwich’s second two-run triple, this time with two outs off Cole Tarrant (Hobart/Rice).
