BURLINGTON, VT — For the fourth time in five years, a Vermont Lake Monster has been named the FCBL Pitcher of the Year with the announcement of John Delgado as the 2025 winner by the Futures League today.

Delgado joins Patrick Harrington (2021), Sean Matson (2022) and Francis Ferguson (2023) as Lake Monsters named Futures League Pitcher of the Year. Including Sean Gamble’s 2024 Reliever of the Year honor, a Vermont pitcher has been recognized in each of the team’s five FCBL seasons.

The left-hander, who now attends Dayton University after two years at Stevenson University, went 4-1 with a 1.26 ERA in nine starts this summer for the Lake Monsters. He allowed just eight runs (six earned) on 25 hits with 19 walks and 53 strikeouts over 43 innings in the nine starts.

Delgado started the 2025 season with 20 straight innings without allowing an earned run before giving up three earned runs on four hits on June 26th vs. Nashua. He then tossed 11 more straight scoreless innings before allowing one earned run in each of his last three starts of the season.

His 1.26 ERA is the lowest by a Lake Monsters starting pitcher in the team’s five-year Futures League history, while his 53 strikeouts are the fifth-most.
