NASHUA, NH — Nashua scored single runs in the third and fourth innings, while four Silver Knight pitchers combined to allow just two hits and strikeout 11 Lake Monsters in a 2-1 Futures League victory over Vermont Tuesday afternoon at Holman Stadium.

Vermont starter Ben Alekson (Stowe/Fairfield) worked out of a first-n-third, one-out jam in bottom of first inning with back-to-back strikeouts, then tossed a 1-2-3 second before allowing a leadoff single, one-out walk and two-out RBI single that gave Nashua a 1-0 lead.

Silver Knights made it 2-0 in the fourth on a two-out double followed by an RBI single off Alexson, who took the loss giving up two runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts over four innings.

The Lake Monsters were held hitless until a Khal Coney (TrinityU) leadoff double in the top of the seventh. After moving to second on a Jack Winnay (Wake Forest) walk and advancing to third on a flyout, Coney scored on a Kyle Lodise (Augusta) RBI single to right.

A flyout and strikeout left the tying run on second before Vermont (24-10) went down 1-2-3 in both the eighth and ninth innings to lose its second straight and fall one game behind Worcester (25-9) for first-place in the FCBL standings.

The Lake Monsters will host the first-place Bravehearts at Centennial Field Wednesday and Thursday starting at 6:35pm. Wednesday is Military Appreciation Night at the ballpark and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a special CHAMP Aviator Bobblehead!
