BURLINGTON, VT — The defending FCBL champion Vermont Lake Monsters are excited to announce their 2022 regular-season schedule as the franchise begins its 28th season overall and second in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. The 64-game schedule begins May 26th at Westfield before the Lake Monsters play the first of 36 home games on Friday, May 27th also against the Starfires.
“We’re excited for baseball to be back at Centennial Field and look forward to making another Championship run in 2022,” said Lake Monsters Vice President C.J. Knudsen. “It’s a great schedule with a lot of weekend home games for our fans to enjoy”.
Vermont will open the season playing 10 of its first 13 games at Centennial Field before alternating between two-game roadtrips and homestands until the end of June when they host a four-game homestand June 30-July 3. Among Vermont’s 14 home games in July will be a pair of four-game homestands (9th-13th and 21st-24th) before the Lake Monsters play their final three Centennial games August 4-6. The regular season then wraps up August 7th at Brockton.
All eight FCBL teams return from the 2021 season with the Lake Monsters scheduled to play 12 games vs. Nashua, Pittsfield and Westfield. Vermont will also play eight games vs. Worcester, seven vs. both Brockton and New Britain, along with six games vs. Norwich. 20 of the Lake Monsters 36 home games will be played Friday (6), Saturday (7) or Sunday (7).
One change to the Centennial Field schedule from past seasons will be that weekday games (Monday-Friday) will now begin a half hour earlier at 6:35 pm, while Saturday and Sunday games remain at 6:05 and 5:05 pm respectively (Sunday, July 3rd game will start at 1:05 pm).
“Our top priority is to provide the best possible fan experience on a nightly basis”, said Dave Schermerhorn, who joined the Lake Monsters as the team’s General Manager during the summer of 2021 after spending 12 years with the Connecticut Tigers/Norwich Sea Unicorns (last six years as General Manager). “After consulting with numerous fans and partners, we made the decision to move weekday home games to an earlier start to make Lake Monsters baseball more accessible to fans of all ages (especially early in the season when our younger fans are headed to school the following morning)”.
