BURLINGTON, VT — Jack McDermott went 4-for-5 with a solo homer and four RBI as the Nashua Silver Knights handed the Vermont its fifth straight loss with a 5-2 Futures League victory over the Lake Monsters Friday night at Holman Stadium.
Jack Winnay (Wake Forest) accounted for Vermont’s first run with a solo homer in the second inning. It was his first home run of the season and just the seventh overall for the Lake Monsters.
McDermott tied the game with a solo homer of his own in the third off Vermont starter Silas Reed (Tufts), who gave up just the one run on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts over four innings.
Nashua got two runs in the fifth off reliever Thomas Santana (Columbia), who was unable to retire any of the five batters he faced including a bases loaded hit batter for a 3-1 Silver Knights lead. Sean Gamble (Minnesota State) kept the deficit at two, coming in to leave the bases loaded with two strikeouts looking and a groundout.
Gamble pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings, but left game after allowing a one-out double, walk and hit batter to load bases. McDermott then greeted Wyatt Cameron (Middlebury/Central Connecticut) with a two-run single to center for a 5-1 Nashua lead.
Winnay added an RBI single in the ninth to go along with his second-inning homer to knock home both runs for Vermont (24-13), which has now lost five straight games for just the second time in its Future League history (June 16-20, 2021).
