BURLINGTON, VT— The Lake Monsters sent 11 players to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring five times to erase a one-run deficit and went on to beat the Pittsfield Suns 8-3 in Futures League action Tuesday night at historic Centennial Field.
Pittsfield had taken a 3-2 lead in top of sixth on a two-run homer from Connor Grotyohann, who had also hit a solo homer in the second. But the Lake Monsters quickly tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth on a walk, single and sacrifice bunt/throwing error.
Tommy Martin (Yale) followed with a two-run single to center to give Vermont a 5-3 advantage. The Lake Monsters added two more runs in the inning on an RBI single from Antonio Perrotta (Virginia), who also scored on a wild pitch.
Vermont (12-5), which has now won six of its last seven and eight of last 10 games, will host New Britain for a two-game series Wednesday and Thursday starting each night at 6:35pm
