BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters would like to make all of their fans aware that their game this Wednesday, June 8th Futures League against the Pittsfield Suns will be played as scheduled at 6:35pm and will be a part of a league-wide celebration of what makes the Futures League fun, exciting and unique.
Since part of the fun of baseball is sometimes playing with a different set of unique rules, the League has decided that the final score in all four FCBL contests Wednesday will not count towards the regular-season standings.
Other than not being an official game, Wednesday’s contest will look like any other Lake Monsters game with all the same concessions, pre-game/between inning promotions and CHAMP entertaining the crowd all game long.
As a part of this celebration, the Lake Monsters and Suns will treat fans to a home run derby following the nine- inning game. One of the things that makes the Futures League so unique is the Home Run Derby which determines the winner of any regular-season game that remains tied after 10 innings. This special version of the Home Run Derby will feature three players from each team and the team with the highest home run total after three rounds will be declared the winner.
Another unique aspect of the FCBL is local athletes playing for their local team and recent Rice Memorial High School graduate Tanner Wolpert will offically make his Lake Monsters debut as Wednesday’s starting pitcher. The 2021 Metro League Player of the Year and 2022 Gatorade Player of the Year will be the seventh different player from the state of Vermont on this year’s Lake Monsters team.
Currently on an eight-game winning streak, the Lake Monsters return to historic Centennial Field tonight and Wednesday (June 7-8) to face the Pittsfield Suns before hosting the Nashua Silver Knights this Saturday, June 11th for Vermont Expos Night and Sunday, June 12th for Kids Day with free face painting, Have a Catch and Kids run the bases post-game.
