BURLINGTON, VT — The 2022 Futures League rosters are starting to take form and the Vermont Lake Monsters are excited to announce that six1 members of the 2021 FCBL championship team have been signed and will be returning to historic Centennial Field this summer.
The returnees signed so far are pitchers Wyatt Cameron, Francis Ferguson, Silas Reed, catchers Colby Brouillette, Tyler Favretto and outfielder Jimmy Evans.
Evans was the 2021 Playoff MVP after going 4-for-9 with five RBI over the last two games of the finals as Vermont clinched the FCBL title in its first season in the league. Evans is currently in his junior season at Tufts University, where is a teammate of fellow returnee Reed.
Reed, currently a sophomore with the Jumbos, was 1-0 with 3.60 ERA in seven games for the ‘21 Lake Monsters with no walks and 15 strikeouts in 10 IP.
Cameron, inaugural George Commo award winner as top native Vermonter on the Lake Monsters last season, led the FCBL with 26 appearances and team high-tying five saves with 1.95 ERA. The New England College junior tossed a season-high 5 ⅔ innings of relief to earn the win and tie FCBL finals with Pittsfield 1-1.
Favretto hit .256 (10-for-39) over his final 16 games of the 2021 season and finished tied for 3rd on the team with 22 walks overall. Tyler returns this summer after he completes his first year at Crowder College.
Ferguson was 3-1 with 4.36 ERA and 46 strikeouts over 43.2 IP in 12 appearances (eight starts) last season, while also scoring 13 runs and stealing 9 bases as a part-time outfielder/pinch runner.
Brouillette, who joined the Lake Monsters near the end of last season, hit .353 (6-for-17) with three RBI in five regular season games and .381 (8-for-21) with six RBI in five playoff games. The Georgia, VT native just began his junior season at Clarkson University.
Newcomers to the Lake Monsters for the 2022 season will be announced over the coming weeks in advance of the start of the FCBL season on May 26th. After opening the season at Westfield, Vermont will host the Starfires in its home opener on May 27th.
