NORWICH, CT — The Vermont Lake Monsters wrapped up their longest roadtrip of the season with a 2-3 record after an 8-2 loss to the Norwich Sea Unicorns Wednesday afternoon in Futures League action at Dodd Stadium.
Norwich jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first before single runs in second and fourth innings. The Lake Monsters got a run back in the fifth on a Tyler Favretto (Kansas Wesleyan) RBI single to score Joey Gale (Saint Joseph’s).
The Sea Unicorns added a pair of runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. Christian Straitis went 4-for-4 with four RBI for Norwich (7-3), while two Sea Unicorn pitchers limited the Lake Monsters to five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.
Wyatt Patchett (Le Moyne) connected for a solo home run in the ninth, tying him for the league lead with three homers.
Starting Thursday with the first of a six-game, seven-day homestand, Vermont (5-4) is scheduled to play 35 of its final 49 regular-season games at Centennial Field including 15 of the next 19 through June 27th.
