BURLINGTON, VT — The New Britain Bees took advantage of some Lake Monsters wildness to scored the tie-breaking run in the seventh inning and held on for a 2-1 Futures League victory over Vermont in front of 2,277 at historic Centennial Field Thursday afternoon.

With one out and the game tied 1-1 in the seventh, Daniel Perez reached on an infield single to first before advancing to third base on back-to-back wild pitches from Vermont reliever Matt Hirsch (Tufts), who got a strikeout for the second out and was ahead 0-2 on the next batter when he tossed his third wild pitch of the inning allowing Perez to score.

The Lake Monsters got the first two batters of the ninth inning on base by a walk and hit batter, but a forceout at third on a sacrifice bunt attempt and a 4-6-3 double play sealed the victory for New Britain (19-13).

Game was scoreless until the fifth when the Bees took the lead on a two-out RBI double, but Vermont quickly tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an Eric Jeon (Columbia) sacrifice fly to score Jack Rickheim (Harvard) who had led off the inning with an infield single.
