BURLINGTON, VT — In the completion of a suspended game from July 17th down in Worcester, the Bravehearts beat the Vermont Lake Monsters 9-5 Tuesday night at historic Centennial Field in a game shortened to six-plus innings by rain-and-lightning. The night’s regularly scheduled contest was also postponed.
Back on July 17th Worcester scored 5 times in the bottom of the first before Vermont 4 runs in top of third before the game was suspended. When play resumed on Tuesday, the game stayed 5-4 until the fifth when the Bravehearts scored 4 runs, including a 3-run homer Jacob Hurrell.
Vermont got a run back in the sixth when Tyler Favretto (Kansas Wesleyan) led off the inning with a single for his 100th career base hit with the Lake Monsters and later scored on a Joey Gale (Saint Joseph’s) RBI groundout.
The Lake Monsters had runners on first-n-third in the top of the seventh on a Jake Gaudreau (Bryant) double and Jesse McCullough (Tufts), but the game was then stopped due to lightning and later officially called.
Vermont (28-23) will be back in action on Wednesday again hosting Worcester for a pair of scheduled seven-inning games starting at 5:35pm.
