BURLINGTON, VT — In a game the Lake Monsters trailed 2-0, 4-1, 7-4 and 8-7, Vermont did not lead until the final pitch of the game after scoribf twice in the bottom of the seventh inning on a bases loaded hit batter followed by a walkoff walk for a 9-8 victory over the Worcester Bravehearts Wednesday night at historic Centennial Field.

First pitch of the game, which was part of a doubleheader scheduled for a pair of seven-inning contests, was delayed two hours due to rain and did not finish until 10:22pm. After some deliberation while getting the field ready, game two was canceled.

Vermont trailed 7-4 in the fifth inning when they scored three times, including a Sam Cavossa (Saint Michael’s) two-out, two-run ground ball double down the left-field line to tie the game.

Worcester took the lead in the top of the seventh with an RBI single, but the Lake Monsters opened the bottom of the inning with back-to-back walks and a Tyler Favretto (Kansas Wesleyan) sacrifice bunt to put the winning run in scoring position. After an intentional walk to load the bases, Mark Quatrani (Cornell) was hit by a 1-1 pitch to tie the game and Joey Gale (Saint. Joseph’s) walked on five pitches to end the game.
