BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the third inning to get back in the win column with a 4-2 Futures League victory over the New Britain Bees in front of 3,600 Tuesday night at historic Centennial Field.

Vermont sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the third and scored the four runs with the help of five of its seven hits for the game. Eric Becker (Virginia) led off with single and later scored on a Kyle McCausland (Middlebury) RBI single to tie the game 1-1. 

After Jordan Kang (Harvard) gave the Lake Monsters a 2-1 lead with an RBI groundout, Antonio Perrotta smacked an RBI double to left-center for his second two-bagger of the night. Following an infield single, Jack Winnay (Wake Forest) made it 4-1 with a sacrifice fly. 

Starter Ben Alekson (Stowe/Fairfield) walked the first two batters of the game and gave up a one-out RBI single, but then retired 12 of the next 13 batters before giving up an unearned run in the fifth including a two-out bases loaded walk which ended his night. 

Lake Monster pitchers held New Britain to just two hits for the game, the RBI single in the first inning and a two-out infield single in the fourth. Vermont pitchers did issue a season-high 11 walks, but were able to strand 12 Bee baserunners as New Britain went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Vermont (29-16) move 1 ½ games behind Worcester (31-15) for first-place in the FCBL and remain one game behind Norwich (31-16) for second-place. The Lake Monsters will play their final home game until July 29th when they host New Britain on Wednesday at 6:35pm.
