BROCKTON, MA — In the resumption of a Futures League game suspended back on June 2nd, the Brockton Rox snapped a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning and went on to defeat the Vermont Lake Monsters. Thursday night’s regularly-scheduled contest was postponed due to rain.
The suspended game resumed Thursday in the bottom of the fifth with runners on first and second with one out for Brockton. After a single loaded the bases, Vermont pitcher Ben Alekson (Stowe) induced a 1-2 forceout for the second out, but then gave up a two-run single to give the Rox a 6-4 lead.
The win was just the 10th of the season for Brockton (10-40), while the loss dropped Vermont (31-19) one-half game behind Worcester for first-place in FCBL standings. The Lake Monsters and Rox will play a single-game on Thursday beginning at 6:30pm.
Next Games: Friday at Brockton, 6:30pm
Next Home Game: Saturday vs. Nashua, 5:05pm
