NEW BRITAIN, CT — Tyler Favretto went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBI to lead a Vermont 17-hit attack as the Lake Monsters took game one of a Futures League doubleheader 12-3 over the New Britain Bees Saturday afternoon at New Britain Stadium.

The game one victory marked the 1,000th regular-season win in the franchise’s 29-year history as the Vermont Expos/Lake Monsters in the New York-Penn League (1994-2019) and Futures League (2021-present).

Vermont jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the second inning on five hits, including RBI singles from Favretto (Crowder) and Francis Ferguson (Eastern Nazarene) along with a Kyle Lodise (Augusta) two-run double. 

Lake Monsters increased the lead to 9-3 in the fourth inning with five runs (all with two outs on six hits, including RBI singles from Trevor Cohen (Rutgers) and Khal Coney (TrinityU) along with a Antonio Perrotta (Virginia) two-run single. 

Vermont added three more runs in seventh on a Coney RBI single and a two-run double from Favretto, who reached base safely in five plate appearances with three singles, double and hit by pitch. 

New Britain rebounded in game two to split the twinbill, holding Vermont (10-5) to three hits in a 7-2 Bees victory as the Lake Monsters spoiled the shutout bid with a pair of unearned run in the top of the seventh.

  • Relievers Thomas Santana (Columbia), Brayden Howrigan (Castleton) and Wyatt Cameron (Central Connecticut) combined to toss four scoreless innings, allowing just 1 hit (a leadoff single bottom 7th erased on double play)
  • With the 14 runs and 20 hits in the doubleheader split, Vermont is 3-1 at New Britain this season, outsourcing the Bees 38-20 with 49 hits over 32 innings. 
  •  Kyle McCausland (Middlebury) RBI single in top 7th for Vermont’s 2nd run in game 2
  • Andrew Noland (Wake Forest) was 0-for-3 in Vermont debut, while Carson Walsh (Northeastern) retired both batters he faced in 5th inning of his Lake Monsters debut
