Vermont Falls 7-3 To Westfield Friday
BURLINGTON, VT – The Westfield Starfires scored four times in the fifth inning for a 6-0 advantage and held Vermont to a season-low in runs in a 7-3 victory over the Lake Monsters in Futures League action Friday night on Delta Dental Diamond at Centennial Field.Â
Vermont starter Keller Vogt (Colby) retired nine of the first 10 batters faced before allowing a two-run single in the top of the fourth. Westfield broke the game open in the four-run fifth inning that was capped on a three-run homer by Will Briggs (his league-leading third of the year).
Lake Monsters got two runs back quickly in the bottom of the fifth on an Elias Huber (Arizona Western) two-run homer before cutting the deficit to 6-3 in the sixth on a Huber RBI single. The Starfires added an unearned run in the eighth, then ended both the eighth and ninth innings with line drive double plays.
