Early Runs Lead Vermont To 7-2 Win Tuesday

NORWICH, CT  — Tyler Wiltsey had a two-run single and James Schaffer three-run triple in a five-run top of the second inning, while starter Shamus Kelly tossed five scoreless innings to lead the Vermont Lake Monsters to a 7-2 Futures League victory Tuesday night over the Norwich Sea Unicorns at Dodd Stadium. 

Vermont loaded the bases with one out in the second on two singles and a walk before Wiltsey (Rutgers) grounded a two-out single to center plating the first two runs. After another walk, Schaffer (Stony Brook) laced a three-run triple down the right-field line for a 5-0 advantage. 

The Lake Monsters added two more runs in the third on a Hunter Strohm (Mississippi State) two-out RBI double followed by a Travis Stroh (CVU/Fairleigh Dickinson) RBI single to center. Kelly (Wesleyan) scattered five hits with no walks and three strikeouts  over his five scoreless frames for the victory.
