Vermont Lose 7-4 Saturday at Lowell

LOWELL, MA — The Lowell Spinners scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth and added more runs in the sixth for a 6-1 advantage and went on to beat the Vermont Lake Monsters 6-4 on Saturday evening in the first of a three-game Futures League series at LeLecheur Park.
A pair of Vermont fielding miscues, two of five errors in the game, led to the two unearned third-inning runs that gave Lowell a 3-0 lead. Lake Monsters got a run back in the sixth on a passed ball, but the Spinners a two-run double and sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning for the 6-1 lead.
Vermont had just two hits over the first six innings before putting together three hits in the seventh to score two runs. James Henshon (Tufts) led off the inning with a single and Zach Geerstma (Missisippi State) followed with an RBI double to left and Tommy Popoff (Binghamton) added a two-out RBI double down the left-field line.Â
Hunter Strohm led off the eighth with a double to center and scored on a pair of wild pitches to cut the deficit to 6-4, but the Spinners used a pair of walks and a squeeze bunt to restore the three-run advantage as Vermont (17-9) dropped its second straight game.
