Monsters Blank Bees 2-0 In 10 On Tuesday
NEW BRITAIN, CT — After playing their first-ever Futures League 0-0 through nine innings game, Vermont scored 2 runs in the top of the 10th for a 2-0 Lake Monsters shout victory over the New Britain Bees Tuesday night at New Britain Stadium.
With Zach Geertsma (Mississippi State) the placed runner at second to start the 10th, Brenden Walsh’s (Endicott) sacrifice bunt was thrown down the right-field line allowing Geertsma to score and Walsh to advance to third. One out later Walsh scored the second rum on a Tommy Popoff (Binghamton) sac fly.
Emmet Christian (Tufts), who worked around a leadoff single and one-out infield single in the ninth, retired all three batters in the 10th to earn the victory. Starter Chase Burrows (Colby) scattered 3 hits and a walk over five scoreless inning, including an eight-pitch third (2 1-pitch outs, 5-pitch walk, 1-pitch final out).
Brandon Rovinelli (Columbia) three hits over three shutout frames, which included working out of runner on third, one-out jam with a strikeout and groundout to end the eighth.
