Lake Monsters Split Doubleheader Saturday

NEW BRITAIN, CT  — The Lake Monsters split a Futures League doubleheader with the New Britain Bees on Saturday as Keeler Vogt and Finn Haines combined on a two-hit, 1-0 shutout in the opener for a V ermot victory, but the Bees rallied from a 5-0 deficit for a 7-5 victory at New Britain Stadium.

Vogt (Colby) allowed just two hits over five innings and Haines (Rutgers)  two hitless innings of relief in the shutout victory. Vermont scored the only run of the game in the fifth on a Bryan Richman (Cal Poly Pomona) RBI groundout following an infield single/throwing error put runners on the corners with one out.

Vermont built the 5-0 nightcap lead with a Jake Lopez (Seton Hall) RBI single in the first and four more runs in the second, including a Jack Fitzgerald (Montevallo) two-run single and Thomas Moss (Trinity TX) RBI single. The Lake Monsters loaded the bases with no out in the fourth, but were unable to plate any runs as the score remained 5-1.

The Bees tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with four runs, including a two-out two-run single to square the game at 5-5. New Britain scored twice in the sixth on a leadoff double followed by an RBI single and later in the inning a two-out RBI single.

* Richman went 0-for-3 in the opener, snapping an 11-game hitting streak to start the season
* Vermont turned 6 double plays in the 2 games, including 1 each in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd innings of game 2
* 1st time Lake Monsters have lost after leading by 5+ runs since July 1, 2025 at Worcester (lost 9-8 after leading 5-0)
