6-2 Vermont Victory Thursday at Norwich

NORWALK`, CT — Four Vermont pitchers combined to allow just two hits, while  Bryan Richman went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBI to lead the Lake Monsters to a 6-2 Futures League victory over the Norwich Sea Unicorns Thursday night at Dodd Stadium.

Norwich began the bottom of the second with a single, walk, RBI double and sacrifice fly off Vermont starter Ethan Freed (Quinnipiac), but after a walk Freed got out of further trouble with an inning-ending double play as Lake Monster pitchers finished with seven straight hitless frames. Declan Musselman (Hood) tossed three hitless innings of relief, while Keeler Vogt (Colby) and Emmet Christian (Tufts) each with a hitless frame. 

Vermont tied the game with a Richman (Cal Poly Pomona) RBI double in the third and a Brenden Walsh (Endicott) sacrifice fly following a Tyler Wiltsey (Rutgers) one-out triple in the fourth. The Lake Monsters added two more runs in the fourth after a Justin Yuetter (Cal Poly Pomona) single and Patrick Shrake (Colby) walk were followed by back-to-back RBI singles from Travis Stroh (CVU/Dayton) and Richman.

The Lake Monsters added a couple of insurance runs in the eighth by following a Thomas Moss (Trinity TX) double with a Walsh bases loaded hit by pitch and a run-scoring wild pitch.
