NORWICH, CT — The Lake Monsters struck early for two runs in the first inning, but the Norwich Sea Unicorns scored nine unanswered runs for a 9-2 Futures League victory over Vermont Sunday afternoon at Dodd Stadium.

Tyler Favretto (Kansas Wesleyan) opened the game with a single for his 99th career Lake Monsters hit and scored when Sam Cavossa (Saint Michael’s) followed with an RBI triple. Cavossa then scored on a wild pitch for the 2-0 Vermont lead. 

Lake Monsters had a chance to extend their lead in the second inning with runners on second-n-third with one out, then two runners on base with two outs in the third, but were unable to score. Vermont finished the game 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base. 

Norwich (32-18) then tied game with two runs in the fourth, took the lead in the fifth after a leadoff walk, then scored two times in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to win its third game of the five-game series against Vermont (28-22).
