Monday Semifinal Game 1 Suspended By Rain

BURLINGTON, VT — Game one of the FCBL best-of-three semifinal series between the Vermont Lake Monsters and Worcester Bravehearts was suspended due to weather with the Bravehearts leading 8-6 with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning Monday night on Delta Dental Diamond at Centennial Field.

The game will resume at 6:35pm Tuesday at Centennial Field in the bottom of the fifth. Those with tickets for Monday’s suspended game can use their tickets for re-entry on Tuesday, while $5 standing room only tickets will go on sale when gates open at 5:30pm for anyone else wanting to watch the remainder of game one. The teams are now scheduled to play game two in Worcester 6:30pm Wednesday

On Monday, Worcester jumped out with 4 runs on 2 hits and 2 errors in 1st, added a run in second and took an 8-0 lead in the third on a James Anastasopoulos on a three-run homer to left field.

Vermont got back into the game by scoring six runs with two outs in the sixth. Tyler Wiltsey (Rutgers) opened the inning with a leadoff double and scored on a Thomas Moss (Trinity TX) RBI infield single. Brad Johnston (Swartamore) followed with an RBI single to center before back-to-back walks loaded the bases.

Patrick Shrake (Colby) looped a shallow flyball just out of the reach of the right fielder and past him to clear the bases with a three-run triple. Shrake then scored the sixth run of the frame on a wild pitch,

The game was stopped with one out in the bottom of the fifth due to lightning in the area at 8:19 and shortly after heavy rain started to fall. After removing the tarp shortly after 9:30 and hoping to resume around 10:00, lightning and rain returned shortly before the game could be resumed.
