Vermont 3-1 Rain Shortened Loss On Sunday
LOWELL, MA — The Spinners got a tie-breaking two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Futures League game was stopped in the top of the seventh inning due to rain, giving Lowell a 3-1 game shortened victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters Sunday evening at LeLecheur Park.
Vermont had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Travis Stroh (Fairleigh Dickinson) RBI infield single before the Spinners tied the game in the third with a sacrifice fly. After Lowell loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth, Vermont reliever Finn Haines (Rutgers) got a strikeout for the second out before allowing the go ahead two-run single.
After two strikeouts to begin the top of the seventh, rain started falling hard with the game being stopped after a walk and a hit batter put runners on first and second. The game was later called with Lowell picking up its third win in its inaugural FCBL season.
