NORWALK, CT — After Norwich had scored three runs in the eighth inning for a 3-0 lead, Jimmy Evans capped off a Lake Monsters four-run top of the ninth with a go ahead three-run double to give Vermont a 4-3 Futures League victory over the Sea Unicorns Tuesday night at Dodd Stadium.

After a strikeout to open the ninth, the next four Lake Monsters were all issued base on balls. Walks to Jackson Kline (Kansas), Gio Cueto (Wake Forest) and Tommy Hawke (Wake Forest) loaded the bases before Kline scored on a wild pitch. Then after a Brian Schuab walk reloaded the bases, Evans (Tufts) cleared them with a double to the left-centerfield wall.

Scoreless over the first 7 1/2 innings as Vermont starter Joe Mascio (St. Johns) allowed four hits with no walks and seven strikeouts over six innings, while Norwich starter Finn Doherty three hits with no walks and three strikeouts over seven innings.

Norwich got a pair of RBI doubles and a sacrifice fly to take the 3-0 lead and got a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth and one-out hit batter, but Lake Monster George Goldstein (Middlebury) closed out the win with a flyout and strikeout for his league-leading 11th save of the season.
