boxscore

BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters saw their five-game winning streak come to an end Friday night with a 6-4 Futures League loss to the Norwich Sea Unicorns on Delta Dental Diamond at Centennial Field.

Norwich led by a run when the Lake Monsters took a 4-2 advantage with three runs in the bottom of the third inning on a Tommy Popoff (Binghamton) RBI single followed by an Elias Huber (Arizona Western) two-run double to deep centerfield.

The Sea Unicorns scored three runs of their own off reliever Ethan Freed (Harvard) in the top of the fifth on a game-tying two-run single and a go ahead RBI single before  adding an unearned run in the sixth inning.

Vermont had two runners in scoring position with one out in both the fifth and seventh innings, but back-to-back strikeouts by Norwich relievers squashed both rallies as the Sea Unicorns salvaged one win in the three-game series.
