boxscore
BURLINGTON, VT — Keeler Vogt tossed five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts as the Vermont Lake Monsters won their 10th straight Futures League game with a 5-4 victory over the Westfield Starfires in front of 4,022 Saturday night on Delta Dental Diamond at Centennial FIeld.Â
Vogt (Colby) allowed just four base runners over the five innings, including a one-out single in the second and a leadoff single in the fourth (two-out walk in second and one-out walk in fifth). He had at least one strikeout in every inning, including two in the first and the final two batters he faced in the fifth.
The Lake Monsters scored a pair of runs in the first on a Thomas Moss (Trinity TX) RBI single in the first and a throwing error allowing the second run to score. James Henshon (Tufts) tripled to right center in the third to plate Jake Dunlap (Catawba) before Vermont took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a run-scoring wild pitch and a Zach Geertsma (Mississippi State) sacrifice fly to the wall in right.Â
The Starfires were able to cut the deficit to 5-4 with a run in the sixth followed by three more in the eighth on a solo homer and a two-out, two-run single, but Emmet Christian (Tufts) came on to retire the final Westfield batter of the eighth and induced three groundouts in the ninth for his first save.
