Lake Monsters Eke Out 3-2 Win vs. Westfield

BURLINGTON, VT — Despite being outhit 12-4 for the game, the Vermont Lake Monsters scored three runs on just one hit in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on for their 11th straight victory with a 3-2 Futures League win over Westfield Sunday evening on Delta Dental Diamond at Centennial Field.
Vermont got a hit and a walk in the first, then 2 singles in the second, but both innings ended with a double play. The Lake Monsters then went down in order the next three innings before taking advantage of back-to-back one-out hit batters, a two-out walk to load the bases and another hit batter to force home the tying run in the sixth.
Tyler Wiltsey (Rutgers) followed with the fourth and final hit of the game, an RBI groundball single to left to give Vermont the lead 2-1. After the Lake Monsters added another run in the inning on a wild pitch, Westfield loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the eighth, but were only able to score once on a one-out hit batter before Declan Musselman (Hood) got out of the jam with a foul pop and groundout.
Brady Lane (Brandeis) allowed a two-out infield single in the ninth before ending the game with a strikeout for his third save of the season to go along with his league-leading four wins. Brett Gable (Harvard) had tossed a scoreless fifth and sixth innings to earn the victory.
