11-Game Win Streak Snapped Monday

NEW BRITAIN, CT — The New Britain Bees scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, capped by a three-run double to take an 8-4 advantage and went on to snap the Vermont Lake Monsters 11-game win streak with a 9-4 Futures League victory Monday night at New Britain Stadium.

Vermont had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth with a 1-out walk followed by two-out hit batter and walk before Zach Geertsma (Mississippi State) lined a two-run double down the leftfield line. The Bees retook the lead 5-4 in the bottom of the inning on two hit batters, walk, bases loaded hit batter and an RBI single before the three-run double. 

Jack Richburg (CVU/Springfield), making his first start of the season for Vermont, allowed one run on three hits with one walk and one strikeouts over four innings of work. Only run came in the second on an infield single, wild pitch, stolen base and sacrifice fly. 

Vermont took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a walk and back-to-back singles to load the bases before a Brad Johnston (Swartamore) two-run double off the warning track down the rightfield line. The Bees took a 3-2 edge in the bottom of the fifth on a leadoff double, one-out RBI single and two-out RBI single.
