14-5 Regular-Season Finale Win Saturday

BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters closed out the Futures League regular-season with their 22nd win in the last 25 games played on Delta Dental Diamond with a 14-5 victory over the Nashua Silver Knights in front of a crowd of 3, 656 at Centennial Field.
Vermont scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, capped off by a Tyler Wiltsey (Rutgers) two-run double, for a 6-0 advantage. Lake Monster starter Alex Feeney (Drew), making just his second appearance of the season, tossed five scoreless innings as he retired the first 11 Nashua batters faced and 15 of 17 for the game (two hits, four strikeouts).
The Silver Knights cut the deficit to 6-5 with a five-run top of the seventh inning, but in the bottom of the eighth inning (which started after an eight-minute delay to shoot off the post-game fireworks before 10pm) the Lake Monsters sent 14 batters to the plate and scored eight runs on seven hits, three walks and a hit batter.
Danny O’Brien (Montclair State), who led off the eighth with a double later added an RBI single in the frame for his second hit of the inning. Brendan Walsh (Endicott) also had two hits in the eighth, including a two-run single to close out the scoring. Wiltsey, who had a bases loaded walk in the fourth and the two-run double in fifth, added a two-run single in the eighth for a three-hit, five-RBI night.
